At Kelly Lane we use fidgets to help us stay focused and alert. They also help us to reset if we get distracted.
"A Little Spot of Feelings" series of books helps students learn about and identify their feelings. We also learn different coping strategies to help us deal with our emotions.
A big thank you to our Kelly Lane community for the generous food donations to the Granby Food Bank! We collected over 300 items! To celebrate another successful Kelly Lane Food Drive, we will be hosting our 3rd annual Turkey Trot next week, Wednesday, Nov. 22nd! Please dress your students warm and with sneakers as this is an outdoor event-hat, gloves, sweatshirts, and jackets!

In Miss. Colaccino's first grade class we took some time to honor Bus Safety Week by appreciating and thanking our bus drivers by writing them thank you notes! We used our phonics knowledge with our new understandings of vowel sounds and digraphs to write words such as "thank" and "much" when writing the sentence "thank you so much!"
Today we thanked our bus drivers for doing such a great job, day in and day out, getting our students to and from school safely everyday! Thank you!!
We are active in the music room! All grade levels do a variety of activities that involve singing, playing instruments and moving to music. A few highlights are kindergarten students are moving in the classroom like squirrels (including sleeping squirrels!), 1st grade is pre-reading music notation using the sticks, and 2nd grade students are exploring a variety of instruments and how to follow a conductor!
The students in Mrs. Peterson's class spent the week learning about the life cycle of an apple and how apples grow. In art they used apples to stamp and paint. In Science we used our sense of taste to try 3 different varieties of apples and voted on our favorite one. The class created a graph and we talked about "more" and "less" using our graph. Red Delicious was our class favorite! We finished out the week strengthening our fine motor skills cutting up apples to make homemade applesauce and then taste testing it! It was delicious!
Kelly Lane students are loving Open Library in the morning! This time allows for extra time for checking out books and enjoying the centers.
Mrs. Budlong's second grade class is hard at work displaying their deep mathematical thinking!
Students in Mrs. Bisaillon's kindergarten class worked together to count collections of objects up to 10. They were able to use a 5 frame to help them organize their objects. Counting collections provide mathematicians a chance to work collaboratively and share their math thinking!
The amazing students in Miss Brown's first grade class are able to study words and sort them into categories by looking at the letters and sounds!
Mrs. Farnsworth’s preschool class is exploring the five senses. We are having fun with scented paint, listening to pop rocks dissolve, playing in the sensory table and washing the stinky cars.
Students and teachers celebrated Dot Day! Peter Reynolds' book, The Dot, reminds us of the influence a warm teacher can have on a child. We saw a lot of dots at Kelly Lane School today!!
